We were sitting in tightly arranged desk pods in the class room as we worked on our assignments. There was a tense feeling that something bad was about to happen when a sudden beeping sound came from the front of the classroom. Those of us close to the source of the noise quickly got up and moved to the back of the room. A security guard walked up to the chalkboard and picked up the offending radio clock from the floor. He yanked out the battery from the device before a break was announced for the class. I needed to use the restroom.

I was leaving campus with two friends that I usually didn’t spend much time with after school. We had walked a few blocks while chatting before I announced in a panic that I had forgotten my bag at school. One of my friends tried to convince the other to accompany me back, “Come on, we get to spend time with the funny guy” he said. It didn’t work, he apologized and went on without us.

As the two of us made our way towards campus, I explained how I must’ve left my bag behind in a half-awake state. Upon further reflection, I struggled to think of there being anything important inside of the bag. Was it just the bag itself? I kept these thoughts to myself, not wanting to diminish the point of the trip.

We were finally back on school grounds and I remembered that my bag was on the top floor. Several of the staircases were blocked off which meant we had to travel to the far end of some of the floors to continue upstairs. There was a small rooftop cafe. I picked up my bag but was stopped by some old classmates sitting at a small table.

One of them introduced herself as Demi Moore. “Like the actress?” I asked. “Yeah for real.” My friend must’ve left while we chatted for a few minutes.

It was now raining as I walked back down the stairs. I didn’t have an umbrella with me so I held my jacket over my head to use as cover.

I was playing as Protoss in Brood War versus a Zerg opponent.
