The entire field was covered in snow except for a couple of glass roofs that were peeking out from below. We slowly approached the light but noticed that the view inside was a fake room. I concluded that the windows must be a trap but tried to get inside because we were lost and there was nothing else in the surrounding area anyways.
Our interrogator was looking through my contacts and noted that he had a few of my acquaintances blacklisted. I immediately sat up when he invited any questions we had.
“Is there more beyond this city?” I asked.
“This is the city.”
“What about planets?” I had a strange feeling that we had fallen from the sky but wasn’t sure if such an explanation would make any sense in this unfamiliar world. I didn’t get a response so I asked something else: “How old is this city?”
“What kind of question-”
“Oh, I mean is the world old enough for someone to fly? Like the world mechanism… universe?” I wasn’t quite sure how to articulate wanting to know about the general technological advancement of the world we were in and if it was compatible with the way we seemingly landed in the middle of the snow. I was only met with another confused look so I continued with the questions.
“Do you know of the Bonking faction?”
“How do you know about that?”
I tried to explain how we’d been teleporting back and forth between seemingly different civilizations.
“Okay, how about the Engineering faction? The one with their rectangular automata buildings?”
“How-”
“Again, teleporting.” I was slightly relieved that we were somehow jumping within the same plane existence and period of time.
