I was at an assembly and everyone was sitting on the floor. The lecture was about the representation of objects. On the chalkboard was a drawing of a rock in various styles under their respecting headings: Real, Soft, Carpitanal [sic], etc. I dug through my backpack to get my spare notebook but had forgotten that the pages were already filled.

David Brevik was now showing off a new survivor-like game he was making. As an icebreaker he asked the audience to name some other games in the genre. My friend brought up “Never Survive” although he admitted to never actually having played it. He started a gameplay showcase and the player character resembled Shovel Knight while the sound design also sounded familiar. At the end of his presentation there was a small splash screen announcing that it was being produced in conjunction with Yostar.

Someone I hadn’t seen since middle school walked up to me to return a pencil. “When did I give you this?” I asked but he didn’t seem to remember either. He was only giving it back now because the origin of the item was tracked somehow.

My mom had just passed and there was quite a crowd of people here for her funeral service. I thought about how my dad had also passed not long ago in his sleep.

I had just finished a match of Heroes of the Storm during some kind of in-game event. There was a post-match first person shooter horror segment based on the StarCraft universe. The UI was very minimal and I thought to myself how jarring this experience would be for people who weren’t expecting something like this after their game.
