I woke up to the sound of my own voice. I looked at the phone in my hand to see that I had been in a call over Messenger with a friend for 43 minutes. Apparently we were in the middle of talking about recent changes in Team Fortress 2 and Apex Legends. I continued the conversation until the 50 minute mark before revealing that I had in fact been asleep for a good portion of the call and had no recollection of whatever it was that we were discussing.

It was time to get out of bed anyways. I checked the time to see that it was 6 in the morning. I sat up in the sofa bed against the window at my uncle’s place. The room was a mess. I unlocked my phone again to start recording last night’s dream.

I picked up my bag and walked downstairs. My brother and his family were just about to head out and accidentally grabbed the handle on my bag as he walked towards the front door with his daughter. Instead of yanking the bag back or saying anything, I just let myself get dragged along to the door. They said they were going to get some breakfast and I asked if I could join. They accepted and I went back upstairs to get my things.

I felt an urge to start cleaning up the room but resisted as I grabbed my things and turned towards the stairs. I started hearing sounds of people singing and chanting coming from the streets. I looked out of the window to see people standing on each other’s shoulders and dancing in rings. Apparently there was some festival going on.

It quickly became nighttime as the crowd outside dispersed. Someone said that it was now time to go to the “real” party. I walked out of the house in search of my shoes. I found them laying somewhere at the front gate instead of on the porch where all the other shoes were. Our family was headed to a restaurant whose specialty was bamboo shoot salad with mayonnaise. I told my dad that I wasn’t really fond of the dish and grabbed a sample of it from a bowl under the porch.

I told him it was fine as long as I got a head start and could take my time eating it. My dad asked me if I wanted to go hiking tomorrow because apparently the sun was really nice this morning. Before I could answer, he asked how my day was. I told him it went by really quickly.

As we walked across the wooden platform in between the rice fields in the dark, (a younger version of) my grandma was walking backwards. Several of my family members tried to redirect her to face the right way before she got into an argument with my grandfather. As the argument got more heated, a small mud brick shack started to spontaneously construct itself next to the couple.
