I had lost contact with my dad among the commotion when we had to run from some government officials. I walked along a path under a temple when my phone rang. They had hung up before I could answer the call and none of my redials went through.

We were on the top floor of the building and a sign on the pillar read: “We are not responsible for our pets”. Several high chairs were strewn around in the water. Moments later, a pack of jade lions jumped out at us and I was unable to keep them away from nipping at my fingers.

A friend I hadn’t seen in a long time was back in Taiwan. I was waiting for them to get ready in their living room which had a bookshelf full of photo albums. I flipped though one of the albums which contained photos from the time we hadn’t seen each other.
