Our class was scheduled for the evening and today we were using a new room. There was a sign to leave our bags in the entrance lobby area so I put down my bag on a chair along with the other students streaming through the room to get to the classrooms within. When I walked into the classroom, I realized that I didn’t have any writing utensils on me.
I walked back into the lobby to pick out my bag and decided to ignore the sign as I brought it into the classroom. It seemed like the other students had already disregarded the written directions anyways.
As class began, the teacher asked for us to turn in our notebooks, which were supposed to contain our weekly writing assignments. A cold sweat washed over me as I flipped through my notebook to find that I hadn’t been doing any of the assignments for the past month (the last entry was August 20).

The bus dropped me off at my host student’s house. I stumbled around in the dark looking for my things as I was leaving the country soon. I walked through the dining room and saw where I had slept last night: three chairs placed together with a blanket draped over them. When I walked into the study, I accidentally kicked a lump on the floor. It was someone who was still rolled up in a blanket.
I figured I was ready to leave so I walked out the front door when my host showed up in her car. I hastily thanked her for the stay as I tried to load my belongings into my car. She seemed a little disappointed that I was leaving so soon. I told her about how the side door had become detached from the door frame when I last used it earlier today and apologized for any damage that I may have caused.
