Our class was out on a field trip and we had gotten off the bus for lunch. I was nearly done with my meal when a girl sat down across the table from me. “There’s something that needs to be said between us”, she said.
I paused for a moment, unsure how to respond. “Cowards don’t get anything”, she continued. I took a guess at what she might’ve been hinting at. “You mean the fact that I find you attractive?” I awkwardly muttered.
“Oh that too - but the physics homework is so hard!” she replied. I not only felt embarrassed by my social misstep but found it hard to continue the conversation as I didn’t recall having much trouble with the homework.
Lunch time was over. I decided to make a quick trip to the restroom but by the time I got out, everyone was already waiting for me on the bus. We were getting ready for a simulated bike ride in VR to prepare for tomorrow’s actual bike ride.
