Class had started on the school bus. Today we were reading a collection of short horror stories. After each story, we were to write a short entry about our thoughts, which we then shared with our neighbors. There were around 10 stories in the anthology.
“The Painting That Took a Seemingly Long Time” was a story of an abstract portrait that had come to life. Another story, which I had forgotten the title of, was about a detective stumbling upon mounds of alien body parts.
After reading through all the stories, our assignment was to write about how they related to themes of children and family. A few quickly came to mind. One story in particular had a scene where the protagonist takes a long time walking through a tunnel before reaching the light. I interpreted it as a metaphor for birth and coming into being.
