I felt overloaded with energy so I went down one apartment building and went up the elevator of the neighboring one. I got out of the elevator at the 13th floor. It was the floor that most of the apartments that I have lived in were on. I walked out onto the balcony that also connected the two buildings together. As I was walking to the other door, I realized that I didn’t have my keycard to swipe myself in.
I was wondering what I should do as I got closer until the door opened and an old friend appeared along with her sister. I awkwardly greeted them as we hadn’t spoken to each other in years. “Island shouldn’t lock the room”, she said.
“What?” I was confused and her consequent explanations didn’t help.
“Never mind”, she said as they walked past me. They were already gone when I recalled that one time I accidentally appeared in the same lobby for a browser game before quickly closing it. She must have thought I quit because I didn’t know the nonexistent password.
I was back in our apartment which was much more well lit and open than usual. I walked through the hall until I got to my room. Everything was covered over with white sheets that now had a thick layer on dust on top. I peeled a sheet from a corner of my bed so I could sit down. I got a notification on my phone.
We started texting again and we were talking about an anime that she had just recently watched. I heard the front door unlocking - my parents were back home from my aunt’s place the building across. She sent me a text that read:
“My boss with with my Sens on Wednesday. You free?”
I felt hesitant to reply.
