A section of the facility had been quarantined due to the presence of rogue destructive nanomachines. Although the swarms were generally harmless, the AI was set on breaking down any other machine into its basic components.

It had been months since we had sealed off the chambers, and we were now sending in someone to investigate the situation. The lights were not working, so we had to rely on a camera with night-vision.

There was a shoebox in the middle of the hallway that wasn’t there when we evacuated. Our scout slowly opened the box before we started to hear a loud whirring over the camera feed. A huge black swarm erupted from the box as our scout dropped the camera and ran.
