His mother had just died and a dinner with all of the relatives was being held at the mansion. An eccentric relative had the ability to travel through picture frames: after walking into a frame, he could walk out of any other frame in the world a moment later. Despite having free reign over which frame to pop out of, he always caused maximum disruption by choosing the one next to the dining table.
After the party had died down, my father and I found a terminal in the dining room. “He does it by dialing 999″, my uncle said. “How can you be so sure?” my dad asked. “I could tell by the keypad sound. Try it out.”
My dad dialed in the code and a voice asked us where we wanted to go. I suggested that we used the picture on the other side of the room behind us, just to test if it worked. But my father responded, “the PAB”. I felt a slight tugging into the frame in front of us before my dad disappeared. “What happened?” I asked.
My uncle and I were left behind. It was “like failing to fall asleep”, he explained. Wanting to know where my dad went, I quickly pulled up the location from his phone. My dad (or his phone at least) had somehow ended up in Poland.

There was a news article about a phenomena spotted in the night sky that seemed to suggest that something was going faster than the speed of light. It looked like a bolt of lightning was bouncing between various stars.
