People were having sex on the bed next to me while I was trying to sleep. I’m not sure if I had even fallen asleep before I was dragged out of bed to look at the TV. It was the announcement for a new Smash Bros DLC: matching skins for the Mario brothers and a new moveset for Luigi. His down special now made him get into a kart that could shoot red and green shells.

The beach was under “renovation” and we had to move all the stray furniture that was strewn along the shore. A white grand piano was partly buried in the sand with a yellow sticker on it that read: “Replace Core”. “That’s no good”, my dad commented.

I saw my dad scrolling through Tumblr blogs on his laptop and thought it slightly suspicious. I laid in bed imagining myself conducting an investigation only to find nothing conclusive one year later. I sat up and ate a bowl of cereal when he came back from his trip to the grocery store and threw a bag of donuts my way. I finished the donuts with some milk.
