I was trying to walk back to my dorm in the middle of the night but it was so dark that I couldn’t see the path in front of me. The canyon was to my right and the lights from the rooms on the other side were reflecting off of the water. I sat on the dirt in resignation as I heard a couple of cats congregating around me.

I told the others to wait for me as I needed to get changed first. When I walked onto the street, not a single person was there. Another group of students approached, talking about how it was much too early to go clubbing. The sun was still high in the sky.

I was absentmindedly stacking pennies on top of each other on the diner table when someone asked “Do you enjoy this?” They expressed their deep discomfort over us regarding fictional beings as being real enough to be killed. “Nothing replaces real people, I understand”, I said “but this is not the same.”
Another person pointed at a trading card behind me and asked if it was a real Charmander that was hanging on the curtain.

The boat that we were tracking had finally started to move. It was heading south, into the Mediterranean. It seemed to go underground on our satellite image until we realized it was merely an even larger boat.
We were in the water by the pier on kayaks following a pair of dogs. A cousin said she needed to head somewhere else and asked for a map. She offered to bring back drugs or chicken nuggets from the city. After thanking us for showing the way, she went off on her water skates.
