A family friend was getting married and one of their honeymoon options was Harbin. I was sitting in the back of the car to pick up someone from the supermarket. We found her standing in the parking lot and people were harassing her for not being able to speak Mandarin.

We were looking at a map of the world on the computer screen again, “Say I can kill you on the spot if you’ve ever heard this before”, he said. Instead of complying, I simply told him that he could kill me right here either way. “Well Japanese is pretty mediocre as a language” he continued.
