It was an orientation event and our group of four was supposed to meet on the grass. Only one other person had come early and she had a plastic bag full of tomatoes with her. I was rather embarrassed when she knew my name but I wasn’t able to recall who she was at all. What then followed was a series of history and geography questions that I tried to answer without really questioning why. At one point she asked if I liked “Canadian Finland” as opposed to the one in Europe. Afterwards she commented, “I though you needed to know a lot to be a history major”. I told her that she got it wrong and that I wasn’t studying history at all.
