My computer science teacher was frustrated that he couldn’t give up on our class yet because he “still [had] someone in this sea of mediocrity”.

I stopped what I was doing and immediately rushed to the dining room to dive under the table when the building started to shake. Someone else joined me and I commented on how it would be great if we could tell if the earthquake was still going on. “A rock on a string, perhaps” I suggested. They then took out their phone with a clinometer app and set it on the floor. It didn’t prove to be very useful as the pointer went all over the place.
When I later walked into the kitchen, I saw two people talking in the laundry room. They seemed to always be here in the middle of the night even though they didn’t live in this house. A third person came in and started complaining how they had accidentally misplaced a save file for a game.
