Someone was talking about their International Relations class and how they were now on the topic of “legitimacy”. I asked them if that was about monarchies and such and they responded by raising up a map of the borders on the British Isles during the middle ages.

It was 10:45 and I was about to depart from my room for class. I heard the hissing of my gas heater leaking and when I looked around the door, I saw my father trying to patch it up with masking tape. It didn’t take long before the whole thing started burning but my dad insisted on turning the heat even higher. Sparks and hot oil(?) were spraying everywhere. I told my dad that it was going to explode.

I ducked behind the door frame and when I looked back I saw that the entire unit had melted away - revealing the lower half of a grand piano. When I touched one of the pedals a tune started to play. “So what’s the difference between this and throwing [the heater] away?” I asked.
