I had opened Snapchat to see that someone had a snap in their story from “Dec 1, 1969″. When I opened it, it totaled about 60 seconds of someone dancing in front of a window in their living room.

We were leaping off of “mining terraces” at heights that would have most certainly have led to our deaths if we were not landing so gracefully. Our guide told us about how someone had made a “bet” with Shell (the oil company) that there was gold somewhere in these mountains and was permitted to excavate it however they wanted as long as the company got some share of the finds.

When we landed back to ground level, I asked the guide for his name. I was impressed at how he could keep talking even when constantly falling downwards without losing his breath.

I asked someone where they were from and they told me “Caraco, the tri-state area” which bordered Germany. They then asked where I was from and replied, “Taiwan”. “Why didn’t you take the Strawberry Test?” she asked. I told her that it was because English was my first language.
