There was a report on the news how Cathay Pacific had split from Hong Kong and was now on the offense against the People’s Republic of China. They had the support of the United States and the news reporter was mentioning how it was Taiwan’s chance to consider its relationship with the mainland once and for all.

I rolled over on the tatami mats and saw a message from my sister-in-law that she received a letter from my brother. I went back to watching YouTube videos.

It was only the second day of classes but I had overslept and missed every single one for the day. It was already four in the afternoon when I woke up and everyone was talking about how to get back home via carpool. I reasoned that in order for me to have woken up in the classroom, I must have overslept on the bus in the morning and was kicked off when I arrived. Someone asked me why I was so angry and I replied that I actually liked being here.
