We had just gotten home from a long trip and the suitcase was still at the door when I had to leave to go to school. My brother was home.
We were walking towards a restaurant where we usually went to for the ferry but acted as if we were heading towards a swimming pool. My mom was talking about how comfortable her shorts were while my dad was walking ahead with my wallet in his backpack.
When we got to the gate I told him my pass/ticket was in his bag. He flipped open my wallet and said, “No” and handed it to me. I dug out the pass from one of the pockets.
An image of a model plane with a pair of chopsticks stuck through it went through my mind when I sat down. The people running the place were hinting that I might be in Zhongmen rather than Dongmen and that concerned me because those are two very different places.
