We were moving out of our house soon and so the days left in my current room were limited. I woke up in the middle of the night to find that there were three radiators and and heat lamp around the bed. One of the radiators was plugged in and took over the socket that the floor lamp usually occupied. Two people were next to me in bed and I told them that they could use this bed when I was gone if they wanted.
My mobile phone rang so I picked it up. Unexpectedly, it switched to a video call of two girls talking who were supposedly sleeping downstairs. They must have dialed my number unintentionally as they did not seem to pay any attention to the screen on their end. I knew that it probably wasn’t right but I kept the call open as they continued conversing.
I went downstairs to find my brother making soup with my dad. I walked over to look into the pan and saw that the ingredients look rather burnt. My father then poured in an entire bottle of pepper.
“Why did you do that!?”
“Well, it’s better salty than bitter” he replied.
My brother then told my dad that this morning he heard news that our mom passed away. Since my parents always slept together, I reasoned that it must have happened when she went out to paint.
While the soup was cooking my sister-in-law came up to us rather excited about how she figured out how to cut a cake with only one inch of it remaining yet still be able to preserve the stains of where the fruit was placed. It involved Peeps.
