Our Japanese class was taking turns reading from a guide book on the bus. I was completely lost when it came to my turn; everything was so out of focus that I couldn’t tell if the book was actually written in Japanese or Chinese. “What’s 「食堂」?”, I pointed to the page. Everyone looked at me in shock. I accidentally made someone miss their stop by asking them for help.

A robot stood on the roof of the New South Lover hotel. It called to its friend standing on the other roof, beckoning it to come over. It quickly jumped over the gap between the buildings before running to hug each other.

We had been stuck in the shopping arcade with no way to get out or contact anyone for hours until a bus stopped in front of us. When we got on, the driver asked us if we were human. He explained that he was blind but for some reason was able to see us.

I was walking through a garden and the only way to open the door to the next area was for a bird to whistle a particular melody. In order to obtain this tune I had to first whistle Zelda’s Lullaby to another bird sitting at the edge of a pond so I could learn it myself. I then had to walk over to the door to teach that bird the new song.

It was the first day back from summer break and our Japanese teacher had an announcement to make. Class took place in the middle of the night on an empty intersection, lit only by the streetlamps and glow of the convenience store across the street. “We’re missing someone today”, she began. She went on to say that someone who was in our class last year had transferred to a school in the States, right before their last year of high school.

The protagonist of the movie was a high school student who had been called in by the teacher to talk about her latest paper. The assignment was to compare the novel they were reading to other pieces of literature but the student had not made a single reference to another work. When asked, the student said something to the effect of books not being a worthwhile medium in comparison to movies or television.

I tagged along for a painting class that my uncle was attending and watched the other students go about on their projects. In particular, I was looking at someone painting a large red-bricked mansion. I wanted to compliment their use of shadows in the central portion of the canvas but I held my words.

I saw a group of acquaintances from high school gathering by the street so I walked out of the mall to ask where they were going. They said they were going to the US-Canadian border. “East or west?” I asked, only to answer my own question, “West probably”, as we were already on the west coast. I walked back inside as I didn’t expect an invite.

The two of us were locked into a closet and tumbled about for a good five minutes. When the doors opened again, I was greeted by the cherry blossoms and the voices of our friends up the hill.
