I faintly recalled taking a nap before waking up in the windowless room. While the walls of the office were bare, the shelves were lined by books written by a professor whose name I did not recognize. The room not only lacked windows, but it also had a door so small that one might mistake it for a fire extinguisher cabinet.

We were given a quiz in class about Pokemon. Or rather, it was given to test our comprehension of a book about Pokemon that ultimately measured whether or not we bothered to read it. One of the prompts was a multiple choice question with the option to choose between Magikarp or Clefairy.

A friend and I were working together on a stats problem. We were supposed to do some kind of calculation as a measure of the error in our model. After a series of hasty approximations, he said that we had 0 error. I told him, “No, we can’t do that.”

When I got back into my seat, I noticed that the group I was watching anime with earlier in the night were still in the call. I opened up the stream again to see that they were now watching hentai and someone had already gotten drunk within 30 minutes of my departure. “What’s happening in here?” I asked without much of a response.

While the overarching plot and progression remained the same, new arcs and dialogue options would appear for each replay of the game. Someone didn’t miss the opportunity to start singing Deja Vu every time we reached a major plot point. We pointed out how inappropriate it was that in some understudied language, “mi-gwa” was jokingly translated as “I love my small brain.” I was essentially bullshitting my way through the conversation and I hated it.

We were hanging out inside of a glass room that resembled a smoking shelter. Either the glass was tinted orange or the sun was setting outside as I was laying on the sofa. “You’re hanging out around here an awful lot”, someone commented. They accused me of “paying [my] dignity for nudity.”

Around a hundred of us were locked in this facility with no way out until we had finished our task. We were here to research the virus that was devastating the world outside. Due to our limited contact with the outside, we were informed during our meeting in the underground parking lot that we had to start rationing our food.

My flight was departing today and our house was flooding. I ran out of my room as the water rose rapidly. I closed the door behind me and watched the water level through the glass panel on the door. It was 4PM.
