We were walking through the library that was currently displaying an assorted collection of art throughout its halls. The third floor featured a series of impressionistic oil paints that were supposedly from a local high school student. I stopped to look at each piece which seemed depict children curled up in the midst of swirling tendrils or faceless towering crowds. I felt a deep sense of loneliness rather than fear or anger emanating from the canvas.

Everyone had already left but I was still looking for the pink Betta fish in the swimming pool. The people up on the roof above were asking me what was taking so long.

The scheduled career services event had ended earlier than expected so one of the coordinators said that they were able to do individual reviews if needed. They asked if I had revised my resume since we last met. I had not.

I was playing a Mario game where every “screen” moved to another screen projected onto the wall. I eventually reached a point where I was on the screen next to the door and was unable to progress unless I continued playing in the next room over. I opened to door into the hall and saw that the lights in the neighboring room were already on. I later heard a flush of the toilet from down the hall. Apparently my mom was reading in the room that only contained a white wooden table and chair under the yellow light. She said I would be able to progress the game if I reconnected the projector to my own computer without needing to switch rooms.

It had been a long day and she invited me to stop by her apartment. I took her up on the offer, as I was so drained that I felt like I could pass out any moment. “Can I look through your music?” she asked on the way back. I told her that I was kind of embarrassed about sharing that kind of stuff but I agreed anyways.

It was the first day of a new semester and I found out that I will be in the same class as a friend of time for two periods back to back. After finishing our first class of the day, we walked towards our world history class. My friend immediately chose a seat by the door but I decided to walk further into the room for a desk near the front. As we sat down, we were told that we were going to take a test today. Each of us was handed a stack of papers that look like its colors had been inverted (the paper was black, the words white, and the boxes blue and orange).

I walked up to a friend who was sitting at a hotdog stand by the rice paddies late at night. Since he had been looking for housing recently, I asked him how the search was going when I really just wanted to talk about video games. He mentioned something about construction going on in a nearby neighborhood so I decided to check it out.

I was standing in line for a printing service that specialized in making parts for board games. While I was in line, I was cutting a string of paper penguins with specially shaped scissors. After a while, we were told to split into two lines to speed up processing everyone’s orders. I finally got to the front of the line when the person asked me why I was here again - I had already placed an order less than hour ago. “That one was a test. This one is also a prototype”, I said as I held up the paper with my hands.

I had finished my drink on the outside patio and walked into the cafe with the check. I left it on the counter with the intention of paying on my way out before walking up the stairs to see my brother and niece. However by the time I walked back down, someone had already moved the check so I had to try and recall how much I had to pay. “Where are you from?” one of the waitresses asked. “Portland”, I said without much thought before correcting myself and saying that I recently moved to California.

We were talking about a trailer for a new Star Wars movie that got announced. The upcoming film was a mishmash of cliches with word for word lines out of 90s horror films.
