A Japanese online store had accepted my job application for a graphics and web design position. It was one of those applications I had sent out on a whim and now I was noticing that I would be massively underpaid. I asked my friend over Discord whether I should accept the job as I hadn’t yet received replies for any of the other places I had applied to.

I was watching a documentary about a group of people trying to commentate and broadcast a sports game in German Catalonia. They had happened upon an abandoned and overgrown villa and needed to bring it up to studio standards. They tried to fix the acoustics in the main room by putting all of the scattered books onto their respective shelves.

We had gotten back from our class field trip and returned to our classroom on the top floor. My group was one of the last to arrive. “You’re such a baby”, someone said as we walked in. It was already dark and everyone was picking up their things, ready to head home. Someone had packed my laptop into my backpack in my absence. I thought that it was probably because my things were in the way. I checked the time, it was 10PM and I was dead tired. The buses had long stopped so I had to walk home.

I walked into the bathroom on the first floor and saw a fox and a white dog in the bathtub. The fox scampered out as I opened the door while the dog continued to sit in the tub under the shower head. I was intending to take a shower but I felt too sleepy to bother dealing with the dog occupying the tub and walked back out. The TV was still on in the bedroom.

I had taken a long walk around town looking for a place to have dinner. However, I failed to find anything that caught my eye so I simply headed back home. I looked through the house to find something to eat but I couldn’t so I just forgot about it. It was around this time that my parents had returned home. They asked me if I had already ate - I lied and said that I went out for dinner.

I was riding on a two-wheeled motorized vehicle after school. Elastic bands that went over the neck held my arms in a sling. The vehicle accelerated whenever I pushed down(outwards) with my forearms.

I was late to the first day of class and didn’t get a choice over where to sit. As I settled down, I overheard people talking about the terms of their rent. Someone mentioned a “blood loan”.

I was watching my friends play against each other in Smash Brothers. They were talking about an upcoming tournament and how one of them had taken in a new apprentice in Smash.

It was dark out and we were driving up the hill on our way home from the store. I was in charge of bagging up the groceries from the front seat of the car. Someone asked me what the rush was as we would have plenty of time to organize everything when we got home and I wouldn’t have to twist my body backwards in a moving car.

Today’s Japanese class started with a vocabulary test. I felt extremely unprepared but managed to conceal my panic as I casually sifted through my notebook as the rest of the class was settling in. It wasn’t until the test began that I realized we had to write our answers on the whiteboard. I wasn’t able to translate a single phrase and broke down in front of the classroom.
