We were being approached by two people inside of a tank. As the tank turned the corner, we drove around to flank it from both sides before firing our guns straight into the body of the tank. We kept unloading our shells into the vehicle at point blank range, unsure of when to stop. Eventually we received reports that the intense “shaking” “may have” “injured” the occupants. I got out of the vehicle and opened the hatch of the enemy tank. Inside were two crumpled bodies and banana in a paper bag. I wondered how I was supposed to dispose of the remains.

I was on a movie set that was filming on a large grassy hill. The shot we were working on was a scene of a car driving past rows and rows of parked (maybe abandoned?) cars on the hill. It was starting to get dark.

I found myself waking up in a school building but had trouble determining if I was too early or late for my classes. I started walking in a direction that felt familiar, letting muscle memory guide me to whatever classroom I was supposed to appear at. I passed by a friend who observed that we somehow always had classes in adjacent rooms.”Maybe we used to?…” I said, still not really sure where I was going. In any case, it must’ve meant that I was close.

We were taken on a field trip to visit an old home. It was not a home that I recognized, yet I felt a strange sense of familiarity with the place. The condo unit was half embedded into the ground level. We walked through the unlocked door and looked around at the walls that were now covered with vines and overgrowth. I turned around and stopped in awe at the skylight that illuminated an entire wall with a blinding intensity in the otherwise cooly lit room. Three stacks of oil paintings were hanging from the gallery rails. We were told that all of the paintings around the house had been gathered here, left to slowly degrade under the unrelenting sun.

I was visiting some faculty offices with a friend when someone came out to tell us we were being too noisy. We were going to a party later and I had made some braised pork belly and beef soup in preparation for it. Unfortunately, the food I had made somehow got put into the same container and were now sloshing around in one big mixture of brown sauce.

I was playing a custom map in Starcraft. The fog of war was constantly shifting as I tried to direct my Probe away from the encroaching darkness.

We watched the demonstration being held down the road from the safety of our classroom until we heard a large commotion and emergency sirens blaring. We weren’t quite sure what was happening as glass fell from the high-rise in the construction site across the street. “They must’ve liked that” someone said. The sirens were now broadcasting a message saying that “an incident has occurred” while the dark mass of people gathered at the intersection were now running in our direction.

I woke up in the dark to the sound of my landlady banging at the door. She wasn’t supposed to be home for another couple of months. I heard her shouting from the outside of the room that my study permit had expired and that my student status was no longer valid.

I was attending an orientation session for an ESL class and the speaker started by asking us to not dream of settling in the US.

I was sitting in the cafeteria watching the news report that the US had collapsed. “I never thought we’d see the day”, someone said. The country had been struck by a series of secession crises along with a collapse of the economy. The Canadian dollar was now once again equal with its American counterpart.
