I felt like a different person every time I went to draw in the cafe at the top of the hill. I didn’t know how to explain what I was feeling so I hid this fact from my parents. I told everyone that I worked part-time at the cafe when really I was going there to draw. I felt so different that I was sure even my appearance changed whenever I was in that space.

Summer had just begun and I was enrolled in an accelerated Chinese language class. The class also doubled as a course in social interactions with a focus on romantic relationships and dating. I wasn’t sure how I ended up in this class that was supposedly set to meet every day of the week. When I asked the instructor how many weeks the class went on for, she said “as many as necessary”. I explained that I would have to miss the entirety of next week due to a conference I really want to go to.

We were about to play a tabletop game and it was time for us to choose a character model. I walked around the room full of boxes of different models, sorted by color. I continued walking in circles around the U-shaped table until I felt like my indecision was delaying everyone else. I eventually settled for a white plastic tree before sitting down.

I woke up as a child and I wanted to find some place quiet. I ran along the beach until I found myself at the door of a concrete building. I started walking up the stairs and it took a few floors before I realized that the building actually housed a few offices. It didn’t seem like I was going to find the peace and quiet I was looking for here.

I had just finished my junior year and I was picking out classes for the next semester.

I asked him what he was doing with the garden hose before he turned around and started watering the grass next to the pavement.

I was watching an anime with a group of friends and was questioning one of them why in the world they would prefer the dub for a series filled with Japanese pop culture references. He wouldn’t give me a straight answer.

Out plane had just landed and we were walking to my grandfather’s place in the snow. Even though it was late at night, it was still light out because we were in the arctic. I stopped before crossing the bridge because I wanted to take a photo of it covered in fresh snow.

We were playing hide and seek in the middle of the city and I remembered finding a good hiding spot earlier in one of the warehouses in the traditional market. I quickly ran to the edge of the marketplace but realized that the place I wanted to hide now had a few vendors walking around and carrying things back and forth. I didn’t really feel comfortable entering the enclosed space with other people around so instead I walked around to the far end of the building and settled for simply being far away from where our game started. I was eventually found without much effort.

It was one of those rare days where I woke up early so I went out for a morning walk. When I got back to the building however, I realized that I had forgotten my wallet and keys in my room. I had no way of getting through the door. Someone suggested that I scale the building and climb in through my window. After considering my (lack of other) options, I decided to go through with climbing to the third floor.
