It was already midnight and I had just finished preparing for tomorrows class. I decided to go downstairs to get myself some mango from the fridge. “What are you doing?” asked someone in the doorway. “You’re the one outside of your room”, I responded. I walked past her and went down to the kitchen.

It was the first day back from summer break and our Japanese teacher had an announcement to make. Class took place in the middle of the night on an empty intersection, lit only by the streetlamps and glow of the convenience store across the street. “We’re missing someone today”, she began. She went on to say that someone who was in our class last year had transferred to a school in the States, right before their last year of high school.

The protagonist of the movie was a high school student who had been called in by the teacher to talk about her latest paper. The assignment was to compare the novel they were reading to other pieces of literature but the student had not made a single reference to another work. When asked, the student said something to the effect of books not being a worthwhile medium in comparison to movies or television.

I tagged along for a painting class that my uncle was attending and watched the other students go about on their projects. In particular, I was looking at someone painting a large red-bricked mansion. I wanted to compliment their use of shadows in the central portion of the canvas but I held my words.

I saw a group of acquaintances from high school gathering by the street so I walked out of the mall to ask where they were going. They said they were going to the US-Canadian border. “East or west?” I asked, only to answer my own question, “West probably”, as we were already on the west coast. I walked back inside as I didn’t expect an invite.

It was the first day of classes and hadn’t remembered my class schedule yet. I checked my phone for the first class of the day and walked into the classroom. The professor was late so the few students that were here decided to watch Futurama from the very beginning. Our professor walked into the room right as we finished the first episode and told us to rewind and rewatch the episode fast forwarded for research purposes.

My dad offered to drive me home but our car wasn’t working. I was looking at a map on my phone as we walked through a residential area but I was unable to find our current location. We opened a garage to find a car and a motorcycle.

The rooftop greenhouse gets rearranged after every annual flower market and this time was no exception. I got lost multiple times among the aisles of plants which now contained a small garden with live turtles in the middle of the room. The entire space seemed to have gotten bigger since I was last in here. I walked across the metal gangway leading out of the greenhouse while giving advice about sex toys to a friend on a forum on my phone while under an alias.

I was at a party and I took out an old sandwich to eat out of my bag. I didn’t want anyone else to see the sandwich as I didn’t feel comfortable sharing something that I had been carrying around in my backpack for at least a day by now. I walked up the stairs to see a classroom with mattresses being used to watch anime.
