Class had ended early but I didn’t know what else to do with my time so I decided to hang around in the classroom for a little while longer despite already having packed up all my stuff. I scrolled through the options for lunch on my phone while I waited for the rest of the class to exit. “You really like to watch don’t you?” someone interrupted. Everyone else was busy chatting to the people next to them.

I was on my way to the department store where my brother worked. I remember that my father said I better go for a run if I wanted to visit him so I started to break out into a light jog on the sidewalk under the highway. When I walked through the glass doors, I was greeted by the blinding white lights reflecting against the porcelain walls. In front of me was the elevator which for some reason cost money to ride. Knowing that my brother worked on the 9th floor however, I decided to take it.

After reporting about a bird without an owner performing at a street intersection, our local news channel headline stated that too many shoes were being sold. One of the images of a street vendor happened to depict my father browsing the merchandise, which I pointed out on the television.

We had come out of the art exhibition and I was still holding a carton of eggs that we had bought in the supermarket. She had warned me that the way I was holding the carton with my two hands made the eggs more likely to crack. I didn’t think there was a problem. After all, I felt that the eggs would be less likely to crack if they stayed horizontal the whole time. It didn’t take long while walking through the department store before I noticed that the carton was leaking. I decided to restart and tried to wake up.

I woke up in the middle of the night to walk downstairs to the unlit stacks of books in the library. I saw a flashlight scanning the shelves further down the aisle which turned out to be my mother trying to find the restroom. Once she saw me, she told me not to go back upstairs again. Apparently it was early in the morning and my dad was going to wake up soon at 6, while planning to wake me up by 8:30. I told her that I would have no problem waking up by then because I had actually gone to sleep last night.

Someone had rented out our house for vacation and we had received a text that they had run out of food after eating grilled steak for a few days. “Wait, you mean they’re eating your food?” someone asked. “Not really” I said. I told them that he was touring Taiwan alone. My brother asked me if I knew that our guest was currently doing his national military service. He showed me a long blog post but I didn’t read it after deeming the rant too long to read.

I had pulled another all-nighter and was now writing a letter to an old friend. “Hopefully you don’t have to resort to straight-gay” my father said rather cryptically. My mother asked me to watch over the stove even though I told her it would be a bad idea due to my current levels of sleep deprivation. I had written down a few jokes in my notebook. Pepeles.

I walked into the tatami changing room and picked up the pink telephone. I turned on the shower and water got all over the floor. I wouldn’t turn it off because no matter how much water there was, the water didn’t feel wet. I heard voices about how the tatami mats were going to get moldy in a few weeks because of me.

I had to retrieve my laptop from the other room and when I opened it up, my Discord client was on display on the projector. It was a laptop that I had used for school in the past and I carried it back to my own bedroom. I set the laptop onto the desk, not sure where my charger was. As I sat on my bed, I started to eat freshly baked from from a stove right next to me. Hot coals were dropping down into the stove from a rectangular hole in the ceiling.

For our in-class assignment, each group of students received a small deck of cards. On the cards were drawings of various objects and subject matters and our task was to come up with a story that tied all of the elements together. When it came our turn to present, one of our members told a story about a pile of body parts that roamed around the land consuming other bodies. “Anatomy” is what he titled it. I personally thought it was a little unimaginative, after all most of our cards were simply that: body parts.
