I was either standing on a bridge or at some kind of waterfront park. It was late in the evening but the street lamps were bright enough to light up the sky. The tiles and railings were a blinding white and implausibly clean. There was a vivid streak of neon purple that slashed across everything. Even with all of the commotion going on, the backdrop took precedence.

We walked into someone’s yard and saw multiple blades stuck in their fence. We tried to pull them out without success before moving on. When we got to the front door, we saw a Malaysian flag draped over the doorway. After a few moments, two elderly gentlemen came out and greeted us in Japanese. My dad said that we were looking for the owner of the residence. They assumed that we wanted to tour the house.

We were operating from a colony on a foreign planet and one of our engineers had just come back from a long mission. We didn’t know how to break it to him that everyone he knew was already dead so we implanted the memories of all of his loved ones into machines to welcome him home. I was standing on the roof of a hotel and looking down at an island that was lit up by street lamps late in the evening. We were on some sort of trip and I recalled the entrance of the hotel with its white walls and blue lettering. I was strangely fascinated by the shape of the land mass.
